Nestled in the prickly heart of the stark West Texas landscape, those who live in Amarillo, Texas have an
inherent appreciation for unique beauty. Their eyes are fine-tuned to appreciate the layers of nuanced
color in a fiery sunset or to notice the first hints of wildflowers blooming after a harsh winter. These
talents of observation have infused this small community with a love of art.
 

White Shirt Art Gallery began with an overflowing private collection being offered to the public. From
there, it has grown to include the works of featured local artists as well as an ongoing curation of prized
pieces offered for purchase. The work offered at White Shirt Art Gallery ranges from traditional English
paintings to paint-still-wet recent renderings of southwestern scenes. In between, we have art by classic
American illustrators. as well as fresh, creative offerings by new artists.
 

Maybe it all started when they hired Georgia O’Keeffe to teach art in their public schools just a few years
after their town was founded. Or maybe they’ve been influenced by their proximity to Santa Fe and
Taos, New Mexico, where artists have gravitated and flourished for the last century. Either way, Amarillo
is known for the private collections of art held there and for generating outstanding artists with unique
talents. And our goal is to draw from both to offer an outstanding selection of art.
